How This Works

We want YOU to spread awareness! Hold a Spit Drive in your town or community.

Remember that donors must be at least 18 years old. At donor registry drives, we focus on recruiting new registry members ages 18 to 44. This is based on medical research that shows younger donors are best for patients and provide the greatest chance for transplant success. Because of this, doctors request donors in the 18 to 44 age group over 90% of the time.

Remember that you don’t have to be at least 18 to help and lead a spit drive!

Once a person swabs their cheek at a drive, and sends in the health consent form, they will be added to the registry and can possibly be DNA matched to a leukemia or lymphoma patient in need. The potential donor is called and asked if they want to donate and has the chance to agree, defer, or deny donation.

What Will Happen at these Events

(For events, CLICK HERE)

If you are between the ages of 18-44, visit any Give A Spit donor drive where you will:

    • Contact information for two family members or friends who would know how to reach you in the future if your contact information changes.Complete a registration form with contact information, health information and a signed agreement to join the Be The Match Registry. To help you complete the form, bring along:
      • Personal identification (such as a driver’s license or passport)
  • Give a swab of cheek cells. Be The Match use the results to match you to patients.

If you are between the ages of 45-60, you will:

  • Be asked to register online
  • Receive the materials to collect your spit.
  • Pay a $100 fee to cover the costs of adding a new member to the registry.

*Ages 45-60 have to pay the fees because their blood is not urgently needed.

Money Donations are Welcome!

This is a non-profit project and club. Donations will help fund events that recruit donors. Without your donations, events can’t be held, which can’t recruit potential donors! Contact giveaspit@gmail.com for more information.

*Monetary donations will be added to our Fundraiser Fund. This fund will support fundraisers. The most important one this year will be a road race which will raise awareness while raising money for Be The Match organization and the blood cancer patients.*
